The research process.
Once I registered successfully at the university, I started developing ideas to recruit my sample of lone parents with cancer. Statistically, there are few lone parents compared to partnered couples and combining that with only wanting to speak to lone parents with cancer I knew that I would have to start being very resourceful. Having helped with research project previously, I knew that recruiting cancer patients for a study such as mine, was more successful if it was done outside of a hospital setting and therefore, needed to start making key contacts that would help me get into contact with lone parents suffering from cancer.
I have started to contact lone parent organistions and cancer support groups, more specifically by getting into contact with the media and policy officers of specific organisations. Many of them have been supportive and have placed adverts of their sites, through which, I have made contact with 4 lone parents with cancer.
It is hoped that I will continue to get support from lone parent organisations and cancer support groups to help me meet my target of 20 lone parents with cancer, thereby providing me with the right amount of information to finish my research at doctoral level. |
