Introduction What is the purpose of the study? Do you have to take part? What will you need to do if you take part?
You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please get in touch if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information. Take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part. If you decide to take part in this study you will be given a copy of the information sheet and a signed consent form to keep. You are able to withdraw from the study at any time, without having to give a reason.
Very little research has been carried out looking at the experiences of lone parents with cancer. I hope to conduct my research to understand the needs and requirements of lone parents who have cancer in relation to the care they have received or they are receiving.
It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you will be given this information sheet to keep and be asked to sign a consent form. If you decide to take part you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. A decision to withdraw at any time, or a decision not to take part, will not affect any current or future care that you may receive.
If you agree to take part in my study then you will be asked to participate in an interview. It is hoped that it will not take longer than an hour and a half. The interview stage of the study, will be carried out either at your home or by telephone, whichever is most convenient. The aim of the interview will be to find out what experiences as a lone parent have shaped the way that you access health care, and your attitudes to receiving care. Questions will also be asked on what your opinion is currently of the care you are receiving, how appropriate it is to you, as a lone parent and how you feel it could be improved/changed to suit you more. You do not have to divulge any information that you feel uncomfortable to do so.
